Jemima Chapman, Director The Kingston Children’s Center (KCC)
Jemima Chapman has been the Director of the Kingston Children’s Center for the last sixteen years. The Kingston Children’s Center is a non-profit 501(C)(3) organization committed to providing quality, accessible early education and care for all community children. Jemima has worked closely with a team of teachers, an Executive Director and a volunteer Board of Directors who aspire that the center be a highly regarded school for early care and education.
Jemima’s experience and education in management and early childhood education have played a crucial part in keeping the center’s financial stability during the past few economically challenging years. This strength lends to keeping KCC’s reputation as one of the most desirable centers for children to attend in the area throughout the last two decades.
Jemima has a BA in Early Childhood Education and a MA in Human Service Management. She started her career in Early Childhood Education as a Kindergarten teacher in Wichita, Kansas. Jemima went on to be the director of Miracles Express, an Early Learning Center in Wichita, KS. Miracle’s Express is a unique center opened by a mother who adopted two children from Romania with severe developmental delays only to find most child care centers would not enroll them; and she would be unable to work and provide for her new family. Miracles Express provided affordable care to all community children. Well trained and educated staff worked with small groups of children; this provided the optimal setting for a young child to grow and learn. Jemima continued her work with the vision that all children should be able to assess this type of quality care and education. Jemima took the position as the Assistant Director then Program Director at the Kingston Children’s Center in 1996.
2013 will be a very critical year for the Kingston Children’s Center as it seeks National Association for the Education of the Young Child Accreditation. Regardless of a child’s ability and their family income level, all children deserve to be in this optimal child care environment. The Kingston Children’s Center seeks motivated Board Members to serve on the Board of Directors. Members with financial, construction or education experience or members who have served on a board before would be key to help move the center forward.
